Assembled from a mountain of bargain-bin samples, Belgian-Australian maverick 's second solo album, is an impressively eclectic cut-and-paste affair that suggests 'the next /' labels are doing him a slight disservice. Produced by , the follow-up to 2003's undeniably still tips its cap to the two juggernauts of '80s world-pop, particularly on the reverb-drenched dub of 'Puzzle with a Piece Missing' and the melodic AOR of 'Night Drive,' the latter of which ends in a clattering -style drum solo. But 's musical brain is far too hyperactive and intelligent to simply focus his efforts on one particular type of pastiche, and elsewhere, he makes convincing forays into foot-stomping Northern soul on 'Learnalilgivinanlovin,' claustrophobic trip-hop on the -sampling 'Hearts a Mess,' and lolloping electro-funk of 'Thanks for Your Time' (perhaps the best song to be inspired by the frustrations of call centers), while also venturing onto the postwar dancefloor with the instrumental Gallic waltz of 'Seven Hours with a Backseat Driver' and the strutting tango of 'Coming Back.' However, the running times of its 11 tracks are all over the place, with the atmospheric gothic indie pop of 'The Only Thing I Know' failing to sustain its early momentum over seven meandering minutes, while at the other end of the scale, the intriguing orchestral melancholy of 38-second closer 'Worn Out Blues' is over before it's even begun. A little more control in the editing suite might have helped, then, but is still an engaging and diverse affair that should see begin to shake off the constant comparisons.

It was featured heavily by Triple J in May 2006 and nominated for a J Award, which, although it didn't win, lent the album considerable publicity. Two songs from Like Drawing Blood rated in the Triple J Hottest 100, 2006: 'Hearts a Mess' at #8, and 'Learnalilgivinanlovin' at #94. Like Drawing Blood also received the number 1 spot on the 2006 Triple J Album Poll for best album of the year, as voted by Triple J listeners.

The album was also released in Belgium, in 2008, with two alterations: it contains a new version of 'Learnalilgivinanlovin', and the song 'A Distinctive Sound' is replaced by a new version of 'The Only Thing I Know' (the original appeared on Gotye's debut album Boardface). Three singles were released in Belgium: 'Learnalilgivinanlovin', 'Hearts a Mess', and 'Coming Back'. Like Drawing Blood has also received the number 11 spot on the 2011 Triple J Hottest 100 Australian Albums of All Time, as voted by the Triple J listeners. VINYL RECORDS Vinyl records are able to capture the purest quality of recorded music in true form.

This is possible because the initial recording is captured on an analog source (usually tape) for the ultimate in High Fidelity sound, it is then pressed onto virgin vinyl. Analog recordings capture the bottom end (or bass) while adding sweetness to the high end (or treble) better than any digital recording ever could. Analog systems are still commonly used before they are digitally transferred to CD. This means that the sound then is altered in the transfer process when CD's are produced. The word fidelity means accuracy and faithfulness. High Fidelity sound is faithful to the original sound made by the artist, capturing maximum accuracy of what was intended for the listener to hear. Vinyl records capture those sounds for the ultimate High Fidelity listening experience!

180/200 GRAM Vinyl LP These vinyl records are produced with 180 or 200 grams of high definition premium grade virgin vinyl. This is a higher quality audiophile pressing than the typical vinyl record of 100-120 grams. These limited edition LP's are manufactured with the hi-fi enthusiast in mind. A 180 or 200 gram LP is sometimes also referred to as an audiophile pressing, there is a higher bass response and an even warmer High Fidelity sound. 180 or 200 grams LP's are typically manufactured in limited amounts and are considered collectibles, commanding a higher price. VINYL REISSUES Typically, a vinyl reissue is a repressing of an original LP, usually extracted from the recording's master-tapes. In some cases, reissues are remastered to lower surface noise and improve overall sonics.

Reissues help preserve the music of an original recording, especially when original LPs become unavailable or can no longer be found. Reissues can be pressed on a variety of thickness from 150 gram to 200 gram and offer a great opportunity for records collectors to own many classic recordings.
